What is a Fixed implant supported bridge?

A fixed implant supported bridge dental bridge is a restoration that can replace one or more missing teeth. The way that a dental bridge works are by attaching a false tooth to two surrounding teeth. The middle section of the fixed bridge will contain the false tooth that sits over the gums. Quality restorations can last for many years and even decades without requiring any type of special care.

Why would a Dental Bridge be needed?

A fixed dental bridge is normally needed if you are missing a tooth. If you’re not a good candidate for implant surgery or you’d rather pursue a less invasive option, bridges require no surgery or incisions to place. The procedure is very similar to a dental crown, but the restoration attached is larger.

Who is a good candidate for a Dental Bridge?

With the help of an exam, we can determine if a dental bridge is necessary. Most people who need a bridge can safely have one placed. In fact, bridges are best suited to patients who are not necessarily the right candidates for oral surgery and who cannot sit for dental implants. Bridges can be placed over virtually any tooth in the mouth where they are needed.

What occurs during the Dental Bridge appointment?

The bridge procedure begins with a local anaesthetic used to fully numb the gums and teeth. We then shape down the two outermost teeth so that there’s enough room for the new fixed bridge. Dental impressions allow us to take detailed moulds of the area and use these moulds to create the permanent bridge. You will then be given an appointment to come back in for a second visit after the bridge has been made so that we can place it in the mouth. The second appointment involves placing the bridge and making some slight adjustments to the way that it fits. You’ll then be ready to leave the office with a brand new smile.
